Immunity
During a recent visit to my daughter’s home, we found ourselves watching a popular reality game show series called “Survivor”. Here’s a brief overview for those unfamiliar with the show. Competing teams of players are placed at remote locations like an island in Malaysia or the Outback in Australia. Several challenges are structured in the competition, anywhere from finding food, a quest for fire, seeking buried treasure, etc. The winning team of a challenge is rewarded with food, needed supplies or the coveted prize of immunity. In the context of the program, immunity is valuable for the winning team; they are free from losing members due to poor performance or just being out of alliance and having difficulties with other teammates during the challenge.
The word immunity caught my attention, as I recalled Mrs. Eddy’s statement in Miscellaneous Writings where she writes, “Christ’s appearing in a fuller sense . . . that calms man’s fears, bears his burdens, beckons him onto Truth and Love and the sweet immunity these bring from sin, sickness and death.” (pg320)
Webster’s 1828 Dictionary defines immunity as ” incapable of being affected or influenced by a disease; having special protection; not susceptible or responsive; resistant. In law, immunity is an extremely powerful position to take or be granted; it means that one is free from punishment, harm or loss.
The moment I take a stand for the allness of God, knowing there is no life in matter, and Spirit is ever-present, I‘m able to be a witness and experience the Christ Truth as Jesus demonstrated throughout his ministry. In John 2:19 our Master declares to his fellow Jews, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.” Mrs. Eddy reminds us that “I” is Mind, and “he did this for tired humanity’s reassurance.”(S&H 494:3). Christ Jesus was not subject to the carnal mind, mortal beliefs, nor or we. We have the right to claim immunity now!
I was able to prove my safety recently when I failed to lock up my belongings in a very public and busy place, a community swimming pool. Distracted, I left my purse, wallet, keys and phone in an unlocked locker and off I went! After my session in the pool I returned to the dressing area and seeing no lock, I brushed aside quickly any suggestion of loss or theft and claimed immunity for myself and fellow gym members. We are all receptive to divine Mind and can only express Truth’s, innocence, honesty and integrity. Needless to say I was grateful to find all my belongings undisturbed, and in perfect order in the adjacent locker!
“Ye shall know the truth and Truth will make you free.” (John 8:32). “ And not only yourselves are safe but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited. (My 210:9)
